What the movie was missing was a convincing villain. Instead it served up 160 minutes of QUARTERLY PROFIT and HOORAH. Even The Venture Bros has more complicated bad guys. So the movie ended up being simply Good instead of Epic.

I had the same feeling. I think it's a groundbreaking movie, for both the special effects and the fact this type of sci-fi movie hit it big (and wasn't Star Trek or Star Wars). I hope it's successful so we see more of this sort of thing. But it left me feeling a little meh too.

One of the problem is, it's been done before. I've heard comparisons to Pocahontas and FernGully. I'm fed up with the tendency to throw the "rip-off!" card nowadays, but really, it would have been nice to see something a little deeper.

If nothing else, it's a one-shot story... I'm sure there will be some attempt at making a prequel or sequel, but really, I'm not all that excited about returning to the world of Pandora because I'm not sure there's anything else you can do there to top what happened in this movie. It didn't help that most of the movie was CGI eye candy that showed just how amazing this world is--I don't feel like there's anything left that will surprise the audience.

I think what bugged me the most was the writing. It wasn't bad... but it didn't quite make the leap over the uncanny valley between the humans' hard sci-fi and the Na'vi's CGI fantasy.

Jake and the rest of the humans were serious, well-trained marines and scientists that wouldn't be out of place on Stargate or BSG. But put them in a CGI body and they turn into Shrek, complete with the child-like sense of wonder and the 50-point drop in IQ.

"Skip forward to the end of the movie.. the credits roll, the wannabe “My Heart Will Go On” credits song rolls.. and I’m not sure how I felt about the movie."

THANK YOU. That was my first impression of the song... they took the song from Titanic, rewrote the lyrics, and got a Celine Dion sound-alike to sing it.

I thought it was great, I can't wait to see Cameron's director's cut (probably over 40 minutes of new footage). Damn IMAX

I thought it was a pretty nice change of pace not having leitmotifs blaring the entire movie too
