Preview: Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption

Geez, that's a long name.
Indeed it is a long name. Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption (I'll just refer to it as Redemption for the rest of the article) is based on a old Pen and Paper game by White Wolf called Vampire: The Masquerade.

That's nice. Why should I care though?
Because it features a very innovative multiplayer mode, which is called Storyteller Mode where one player acts as the storyteller (just like the old pen and paper game) and up to 8 other people can join in the game and play. The storyteller's job in the game is to basically get the story flowing in the game, he acts as an administrator of the game so to speak. He has the ability to control NPCs and actually walk around with them and talk to players with them. The storyteller can also trigger certain events such as unlocking a door, spawning monsters, etc.

Woa! That sounds great! But what about the single player game?
The single player game of Vampire will take place in the Dark Ages, Prague and Vienna, and in Modern times, London and New York (on New Years Eve to be exact). You play as Christof Romuald, who is a Vampire hunter in the Dark Ages. Ironically he is embraced (being turned into a Vampire) and is faced with immortal life as a creature that he wouldn't have hesitated to slice with a sword.

Very cool storyline, so what about the Engine? Will it be some Quake clone?
No. Nihilistic Software has designed a whole new engine for Redemption, which is called the NOD engine. To just show a little tidbit about the NOD engine, Christof's character model alone has about 2,000 polygons, making NOD do some amazing detailed models.

Nillitistic Software? Wha? Who?
Nihilistic Software. A bunch of great guys out to create great games, with industry veterans such as Ray Gresko, Robert Huebner, and Yves Borckmans.

Geez! What a bunch of nerds!
Yeah? Well you just wait 'till Redemption comes out you sorry loser.
