Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)

Albums

The Arcade Fire – Funeral

Wintersleep – Welcome to the Night Sky

The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

Frightened Rabbit – Midnight Organ Fight

The National – Boxer

Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings The Flood

TV on the Radio – Dear Science,

Coldplay – A Rush of Blood To The Head

(Almost there: The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters, The Killers – Hot Fuss, Kashmir – No Balance Palace, Matthew Good – Vancouver, Pearl Jam - Backspacer, MGMT – Oracular Spectacular, Sun Kil Moon – April, every other Jack Johnson album...and a few movie soundtracks - Gladiator, Master and Commander, Into The Wild, Sunshine)

Bands

Arcade Fire – Just love these guys, can't wait for album #3.

Pearl Jam – My all-time favourite band had a solid if unspectacular decade...well...until 2009 that is, Backspacer was a fantastic album closer to their first albums in terms of quality but with a more mature tone without sounding at all tired or with nothing left to say.

Wintersleep – It’s a sign of how much I love 2007’s Welcome to the Night Sky that this band is so high on the list despite my dampened enthusiasm for their earlier two albums. I would have killed to see them open for Pearl Jam during their Canadian tour.

State Radio – It was a sad day when Dispatch broke up, but this splinter band makes it a much easier pill to swallow. Reggae-rock with a strong social conscience....kinda like...Dispatch.

Matthew Good – Good decade for the canucks.

Jack Johnson - I can't really put my finger on why I like him so much, just chills me out?

Frightened Rabbit – An almost awkwardly honest Scottish rock band. Their debut was nothing to write home about, but the follow-up Midnight Organ Fight was one of those rare albums where I would be hard pressed to find a song I don’t love.

TV on the Radio – Didn't expect to like a band like this, but they're exceedingly talented.

Neko Case – I almost never like country, even alt-country like this. Neko Case is no ordinary singer or songwriter though, she could take up yodelling and I’d probably be ok with it.

The Twilight Sad – Good decade for the Scottish too.

(Almost there – The National, The Killers, Sun Kil Moon, Kashmir, Travis, Keane, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Imogen Heap, The Hold Steady, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, Outkast, Explosions in the Sky)

TV shows/mini-series

Band of Brothers (the best thing I've ever seen on TV period I should add)

West Wing

Frasier

Arrested Development

Battlestar Gallactica (most engrossing series long story/mystery ever...now if only more of the characters had been likeable)

Rome (cut short well before it's time, amazing stuff. I love Pullah.)

Firefly (*sniff*...it was so...young)

Family Guy

Generation Kill (warts and all adaption of the book by a Rolling Stone reporter who was embedded in a frontline U.S. Recon unit in Iraq during the '03 invasion, quite brilliant and by all accounts a dead-on portrayal)

The Soup/Community (Joel McHale is one of the funniest people I've stumbled across this decade so he earns this spot)

(Almost there: Veronica Mars, Buffy...even though most of the seasons this decade were meh, The Wire, Lost...um it's a love/hate thing, Modern Family is one to keep an eye on)

Oh and for kicks...

WORST MOVIES OF THE DECADE NO REALLY JUST STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHIT

Dreamcatcher (2003) - A Lawrence Kasdan (The Big Chill, Silverado) adaption of a Steven King novel starring Morgan Freeman, Damian Lewis, Thomas Jane, Jason Lee and Timothy Olyphant. Sounds promising don't it? DO NOT BE FOOLED. Utterly terrible and Kasdan hasn't made a movie since.

Battlefield Earth (2000) - The awfulness of this movie is now legend. No offense Xenu, I'm sure my thetans loved it.

The Love Guru (2008) - I'll pretend I never saw this Mike Myers, I still want to like the Austin Powers movies.

Ghostrider (2007) - Picking the worst Nicolas Cage movie of the decade should be a list by itself.

The Happening (2008) - It is from this point forward illegal to mention M. Night Shylawhatever's name in the same sentence as Hitchcock. Tosser.

Miracle at St. Anna (2008) - yeah 2008 had some clunkers. On paper a WW2 movie directed by Spike Lee about an African-American unit sounds foolproof. In practice this ridiculous movie insulted everyone it was trying to salute. This one made me genuinely angry.

The Spirit (2009) - Almost terrible enough to cross the threshold back into entertaining. Almost.

Stealth (2005) - The first half of this movie has to be seen to be believed it's that shonky (curiously the second half is not quite as bad)

Lions for Lambs (2007) - Oh Robert Redford, how on Earth did you **** this up so badly? This is likely the only movie ever made where the redneck label "liberal propaganda" is actually 100% accurate....and I'm a liberal! Preachy in the extreme, Redford lectures the audience for an hour and a half and forgets to actually...you know...make a movie.

Babel (2006) - ...ok probably a bit unfair, but this was the worst case of "Oscarbait" this decade and just mindnumbingly pretentious. Wanted to be Traffic, failed miserably, yet somehow got an Oscar nomination over Children of Men(!!!), Pans Labyrinth(!!!), Apocalypto, The Prestige, United 93, The Lives of Others and Blood Diamond. What.
