I love Bill Callahan like the scary unapproachable uncle I never had. You should give A River Ain't Too Much to Love (from when he called himself Smog) a go if you haven't heard it. It's one of my favourites.

Yeah, I'm super excited about that. I was reading about it, and they mentioned Beulah's last show at Battery Park and I got all goofy in my stomach, and was like "I was totally there!"

Also, listening to Bill Callahan for the first time. I have no idea how to describe my reaction to it other than, at one point, I cocked my head to the side quizically and grinned. I'm still not sure why, there's just a bizarre quality to his voice and singing style at some points. At other points, horribly mundane.

I liked that RAA song - friend of mine has their album somewhere, gonna toss it my way.

#77 on the list, Frida Hyvonen, is pretty great if you're into Swedish women playing the piano and singing along in English that swings between insane and poetic. Which I AM.

"Actor Out of Work" by Saint Vincent is really good.

Most of the stuff that I recognize on that list (Phoenix, Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors) are things that I haven't been able to get into - though I haven't given them much of a try.

As the writing is of the school of overwritten descriptions that don't convince one to care, nor enhance the enjoyment of those that already do, nothing grabbed my attention. If you find other good things, by all means, pass them on.

So, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift are on it.

But see, I'm not above admitting that both of those artists have made singles this year that, while I didn't go out and download the album, I'll tap my foot to when they are on the radio. That Paparazzi song by Lady Gaga? Kind of enjoyable. But Pitchfork put them on their top 100? Objectively, they should be on any Top 100 list, but Pitchfork couldn't give you the definition of 'objective' if you handed them a dictionary. So, I'm confused.

But more importantly, I had no idea that The Rural Alberta Advantage was a band that existed. Then I heard a song of theirs on this list. Hot damn. I haven't listened to the rest of their album yet, but "Don't Haunt This Place" is pretty goddamn wonderful. Now, admittedly, I've had a few beers, and while beer has never really had a beer goggle effect for me, it definitely has a beer hearing aid effect. So, maybe when I'm sober I'll enjoy it less. I hope not.

So, thoughts? Anyone else check out the list?
