Kinda boring. Kinda pretty.

I'm wondering if this means we'll never have to see a White Man Saves Nature-Connected Natives From Industrial Forces movie again, since this pretty much pushes that to its absolute literal extreme.

I liked the South Park episode. They used Smurfs.

So basically it's a Miyazaki film?

I would not describe Miyazaki films in that way, so no.

OK, not exactly. But they both have the Industrial Forces Are Evil And Want To Destroy Nature trope.

Miyazaki just goes the direction of Nature Will Seriously Fark You Up If You Screw With It rather than White Man Saves Nature-Connected Natives direction.

I actually wrote half a screenplay in 2000ish (laffo remember when I was thinking of being a film major?  Oh the hilarity) all about this elaborate love/survival story of these alien people on some planet being attacked and enslaved/exterminated by some faceless invading alien nation.  The twist towards the end was going to be that it's revealed that the faceless alien menace is actually humanity, just to throw the whole "aliens are attacking us!" routine that was going on back then on its edge.

I think James Cameron telepathically stole my idea.  Or something.  I didn't watch Avatar yet so I don't really know what it's about, but that's what it sounds like.

Great movie, it's pretty paint-by-the-numbers but Cameron's polished it to a high sheen.  I can't wait to see the full cut on DVD.
