… than with a new NES?
Jeff has been whining about a new NES for awhile, and since I finished the last one, apparently I get to start the new one. I've been kicking around some ideas on what to do with it, but Arby's being all grizzly about it (you see what I did there) and not helping. So public forum time!
If you've been taking notes, (aka giving a shit) at the end of the last NES Juztyn basically ended up erasing the entirety of the NES and throwing everyone into a vortex limbo. It was all an elaborate plot by Arby and myself (real life plot. not story plot) to reboot the NES and update it since, let's face it, we're not all 16-ish anymore, and our tastes have changed and matured (in some cases) and we've all grown up and moved on to different things. (in some cases) So now the question is what do we actually do for a new NES?
I was operating under the impression that we'd be keepiing it relatively sci-fi, even though Arby is all anti now and hates SyFy. I was envisioning something much broader than just Star Wars, but ultimately drawing from lots of different inspirations and not going for some crazy original universe with its own narrative, since half the point of the NES has always been its referential humor. A key facet of any new NES is that all of our characters, while possibly keeping the same names, if you want, would be different… or you could keep yours the same, but that's BORING. Then again, SyFy could also be considered BORING. There's also the issue of how do we refer to the previous NES, namely… we don't. Fresh start, clean slate, etc etc… if it devolved back into old archetypes and characters, then what's the point of starting over with something fresh in the first place? I do believe we're all a bit more creative than that. (except Nob, who will probably still write 2000 word narratives about some far off space battle that has nothing to do with anything but is pretty well written)
Another option is to just keep away from the old NES mould for now, and write a little one-off like one of the many others we've done before. The problem with that is that… yeah, like every one-off NES other than the SS2NES ended in utterly miserable failure because people got bored and stopped writing. Actually, that happens to most NESes in the last 6 or so years. But we could still try something different… I had this idea for a StyleNES, wherein we each pick a specific writing style (for example Gritty Noir, Hollywood Blockbuster Screenplay, 80s era Sitcom with laughtrack, etc) and then we each stick to that style throughout the entire narrative, all continuing each others' story. The odd juxtaposition of style could be entertaining, or it could be a horrible failure. Who knows.
So yeah. Think up some shit or vote or whatever.
